Baker's journey from Pittsburgh's jazz clubs to singing with jazz legends such as Louis Armstrong, Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, and Billy Eckstine is a testament to her immense talent and influence. Her time with "The Dream Band" was a peak moment in her career, performing with the likes of Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, and Art Blakey. Her later years in Charleston, especially at the Shalamar club, were a special time for Baker, blending the worlds of jazz, socializing, and even politics. "Charleston's First Lady of Jazz" was inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame in 2008.
