From a standout high school player, excelling in college basketball at the University of Maryland, to a successful international career, this Martinsburg native demonstrated incredible talent and resilience. Not only did she help her college team win three ACC titles and reach the NCAA Final Four, but she also made a significant impact playing for both the U.S. Olympic team and in professional leagues, including the WNBA.

Her versatility as a player, particularly in the front court, allowed her to score over 2,000 points during her WNBA career, solidifying her as a key contributor to the Charlotte Sting and Washington Mystics. After her retirement, her passion for basketball continued as she moved into coaching and teaching, helping to nurture the next generation of athletes.

Her induction into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011 followed by her roles as head coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College and an educator in Berkeley County schools are testaments to her lasting influence . Her legacy lives on in Martinsburg, where a street was named in her honor after her 1988 Olympic gold medal victory.
