Vitrolite was a type of colored glass made in Vienna starting in 1908. It became popular for building use, especially for storefronts and interior panels. The Vitrolite Company was bought by Libbey-Owens-Ford in 1935 and continued production until 1947. Originally made in white and black, it later came in a range of colors and was used in Art Deco and modern designs, such as in this photo of Charleston's Quarrier Diner. However, its popularity declined in the 1950s as new materials took over.
