German glassworkers founded the Seneca Glass Company in 1891 in Ohio. In 1896, it moved to Morgantown, becoming the first of over 20 glass factories in that area. Seneca was known for its high-quality, hand-blown lead glass and use of many decorating methods such as etching and cutting.

Seneca opened a second plant in Star City in 1911 and added colorful glass in the 1920s. Some pieces were so detailed they took 14 hours to make. Seneca Glass was bought by U.S. embassies and Vice President Lyndon Johnson, and it was even sold at Tiffany’s in New York. Seneca closed in 1983.
