The Paul Wissmach Glass Company in Paden City is one of the oldest and few remaining commercial glassmakers in West Virginia. It produces over 13,000 square feet of colorful art glass daily in more than 3,000 shades. Its glass has been used around the world, including in the White House and at the Vatican.
Founded in 1903 by German immigrant Paul Wissmach and partner Joseph Reininger, the company first operated as Empire Glass. Wissmach later renamed it the Ohio Valley Glass Company, and finally Paul Wissmach Glass in 1910. After a major fire in 1927, the company rebuilt and continued growing.
Wissmach’s family ran the company until 1987, when longtime manager Paul Feldmeier took over.
