The Tyler County oil and gas boom spread beyond Sistersville. In 1892, the Polecat oil well hit a rich pool, and in 1894, the Big Moses gas well became one of the largest ever found. This started an oil and gas rush that dramatically increased the county’s population. By 1910, the boom was slowing down, and the whole county felt the impact.
