Before home indoor plumbing arrived, West Virginia potteries made sanitary items like pitchers, basins, chamber pots, and soap dishes. Later, they began making sinks and toilets. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, companies such as La Belle and Riverside in Wheeling and others in Mannington, Cameron, and Keyser, produced this heavy ware. Some, like Bowers and Kimm Products, continued into the mid-1900s.
