Anna Evans Gilmer (1924-2019), a Charleston native, was educated at Bluefield State College. She was co-author of Black Past, a history of Charleston’s African American organizations, businesses, schools, and churches, and also a pictorial history of Garnet High School, entitled The Way We Were.
