William W. French (1932-2012), born in Beckley, graduated from WVU and earned an M.A. and a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. He joined the WVU English department in 1967, teaching Shakespeare and drama courses until his retirement in 1999. He wrote <em>The Morgantown Play, or Dreams from a Shady Glen</em>, which was performed at the Metropolitan Theatre.
