Martha J. Asbury (1940-2019), a McDowell County native and graduate of Big Creek High School, was a writer, performer, and playwright-director for EcoTheater in Lewisburg. She performed in several cities and at universities in different states. Asbury was published in Goldenseal, Wonderful West Virginia, Blue Ridge Country and other magazines, and was an award-winning poet.
